Uploaded a new review for Stephen King's first entry into the Dark Tower series,The Gunslinger. Also, in addition to Mark's new banner at the top of the page, I've written and placed biographies for every staff member. Check 'em out. I've also added a list of things that I'm working on in my staff page. You know, in case anyone was curious.

As promised I've uploaded the double James Frey review. Frey is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, despite all the garbage that was said about him four years ago. I may be a little late getting into the game but it's better late than never. Started reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Strange place to start with King but I'm excited.

Completed a review for Jeff Lindsay's 4th Dexter novel, Dexter By Design. Not an overall favorable review, average at best - not at the level the character deserves given 4 excellent seasons on TV. Working on another book review, a two part book review based on James Frey's two part memoirs "A Million Little Pieces" and "My Friend Leonard".
02.12.10
[Brandon}
Uploaded a movie review for 2009's The Road. Didn't get a wide release so I didn't get a chance to see it until recently when it came as a part of the Cape Breton Film Series. Good stuff. Check it out.

Posted a movie review for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. I have a few more updates planned. Keep an eye open.
01.20.10
[Brandon]
Posted a book review for John Connolly's The Gates. Working on a review for Sherlock Holmes as well, should have that up in a few days.
01.07.10

Look at me, doing a movie review! The Blind Side is now available for viewing.
Also, going to post a new product review for something tasty.
01.03.10

I posted the first top ten of 2010, Top Ten Action Movies of the 00s. This is actually the first entry in a series of various top ten lists. Hope you all enjoy it. Working on some other stuff. A ridiculous article is going up the end of next week.

Props to Mr. MacLeod for posting a blast from the past. I wish we had pictures from that night. Hard to believe it was 10 years ago.
MD is starting of the New Year with a bang! I've posted two new reviews, one for J.D. Salinger's Catcher In The Rye and one for (500) Days of Summer.

As 2009 comes to a close, and 2010 rushes in, I thought about how quickly the year has gone by.
This time a year ago, Lisa and I were nearly shitting our pants with excitement as we prepared
for our upcoming flight from Fort McMurray back to Sydney to see our family and friends.
That really doesn't feel like a year already.
That also got me to thinking how ridiculously fast the last 10 years have gone by.
Ten years since the world was 'worried' about that Y2K business.
So on this, the 10 year mark, I felt it neccessary to repost a classic article by Brandon Sears
recalling a little get together of a group of friends on New Year's Eve 1999.
Enjoy, and Happy 2010 !

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us here at Modern Distraction!
12.21.09
[Brandon]
I added the two Christmas articles completed by myself and Matty. Top 10 Christmas Specials and Top 10 Christmas Movies. Also, check out part 1 of December's Ringside Reactions entry. It's a doozey. It's amazing how different WCW Nitro and WWE Raw were.
Mark has also busted out a new Product Review! Update-a-mania!

Added a non-Christmas article to the site, a video game review for Wii's ExciteBike! I have a few great Christmas articles left but they will be spaced out up until Christmas. Word.
11.28.09
[Mark]
Just as a head's up; I've been working on the daunting task of uploading our immense archive of work pre-dating the site's re-launch. The video game review section is now fully stocked.
11.26.09
[Brandon]
Just as I promised, a new Christmas article. Posted a new celebrity playlist - this time, with my favorite Christmas tunes. I posted a link to a video when I could find one.
11.26.09
[Brandon]
Hey Folks! I posted a review for John Connolly's Dark Hollow this morning, finished it last night. Connolly is near the top of my favorite author's list, so you can guess how the review went. I'm going to be posting a Christmas article tonight, I was going to do it this morning but I've run out of time as I need to get on my way to work. Hopefully, you all enjoy it.
11.22.09
[Brandon]
Yeah, I waited as long as I could. I only managed to post it within 3 days of when I said I would, so that's not too bad. I have a few articles ready to go but I decided that I'll post 'em slowly rather than all at once. Up first, the shortest of them all - A review of Bob Dylan's Christmas In The Heart. A good effort but falls short of something memorable.
11.13.09

Updated the site with Pt. 2 of this month's ringside reactions column. WCW Saturday Night, folks. A forgotten relic of the pro wrestling industry. Check it out.
11.10.09
[Brandon]
Another new column! Evening folks. I updated the site again tonight. I decided that since I have the WWE Classics On Demand channel, I should really do something with it for the site. Therefore, we have "RingSide Reactions". A new column. Go for it.
11.03.09
[Brandon]
Evening folks. I've updated the site with yet another book review. Check out the appropriate section to find a review for Martha Harts' tell all biography on the life and death of Owen Hart.
11.01.09
[Brandon]
Made some changes. Took the Underappreciated Moments out of the Editorials section and gave it it's own column. Also, added my own entry to accompany Al's. Hope you enjoy it. Normally, I would probably try and put up the Christmas layout up directly after Halloween but I'm going to show some self restraint this year and try to wait until at least after American Thanksgiving.
10.31.09
[Brandon]
Just posted a top 5 list submitted by Mr. Passerini in support of Halloween! Take a gander.
10.28.09
[Brandon]
Another book review posted. I'm on a review roll!
10.27.09
[Brandon]
Another update?! I recently whipped up a review for John Connolly's "Nocturnes", a collection of short stories released in 2006.
10.26.09
[Brandon]
Matty's review for Uncharted made me that much more excited to play it this Christmas. Anywho, down to business. Posted a new editorial by Alex, "Underappreciated Moments in Pro Wrestling" - a great new feature. Check it out. How can you go wrong with that first entry, possibly one of the greatest matches of the 90's. Not a whole lot else going on. I was hoping to have some sort of Halloween article up before Saturday, let's hope that's still a possibility.
10.22.09
[Matt]
Alright well I just threw up a review for Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves, check that out. I saw a movie last night that I'll probably throw a review up for over the next few days, so keep a look out for that.

Good morning, folks! I'm up and at them early today bringing you two updates! I've written a review for Kevin Smith's "Batman: Cacophony" (which I promise is my last Smith review for at least a few months) and I bring you another edition of "Pointless Tributes" by Alex Passerini. The brand new article written by Al will be posted later on this week, I hope you enjoy it. Anywho, that's it for me now. Oh, and I almost forgot. Happy belated 26th birthday to resident site contributor, Mark MacLeod.
10.15.09
[Brandon]
I might be a little late but I did post one of three articles that were produced by Al this morning. Finally, Al has graced us with another edition of "Pointless Tributes". One of the next two submissions by Al is an all new article, hope you all like it. I'll give it a few days anyway, so we can space out his updates like he had requested. Not a lot else going on, I should have another book review up pretty soon for Kevin Smith's Batman outing, "Cacaphony" as well as the 3rd season of Dexter (I might be a little late on this one).
10.14.09
[Brandon]
Oh dear, our beloved Leafs are in trouble.
Other than what Al had posted, I posted a review for Kevin Smith's newest book, "Shootin' The Sh*t with Kevin Smith: The Best of SModcast". Look for some new material completed by Alex to be posted this evening.

Marlies lose to Avs 4-1. Ron Wilson wonders if he can play a CHL team.
In a move sure to be made into a movie at some point by Walt Disney, Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson decided to start Toronto's AHL team, the Marlies, in hopes of winning a game. "Really," said Wilson, "could it make it any worse?" With their "NHL" starter injured and the Monster still healing, Wilson had no choice but to call up Joey "I wear number 29" MacDonald and back-up James Reimer.
"I think it worked out pretty well!" said a happy Brain Burke between shots "I mean look, we didn't win, but we also didn't allow 7 goals either". "You should see what I have planned for next game." explained Wilson. "After seeing Ian Whites great goaltending I plan on playing him on Saturdays game against the Rangers".
In even better news for the Leafs, Mike Komisarik showed new sophmore Luke Schenn how to really score on your own net, by using your head. "What can I say, he leads by example" laughed Schenn.
The Leafs next loss comes Saturday against the Rangers, unless Ian White really does play goal.

Took in Zombieland on Friday night, posted a review. Wow, this place has been busy.

Updated the Book Reviews section. Posted a review for Kevin Smith's Spider-Man run, "The Evil That Men Do". Read it up.

After a long chat with fellow site contributor, Matty, we have two huge articles coming your way this holiday season. A collaboration of sorts will involve two top ten lists that will blow your mind. Probably not, but still. Not a lot to post, other than that I'm working on a few reviews here and there. Matty, Alex, myself and others are attending Zombieland this evening and I'm sure one of us will have a review completed. Also, I managed to take in a Hawksley Workman concert last night. Let's just say it wasn't "the greatest thing I've ever seen"..and we'll leave it at that.
09.27.09
[Brandon]
Posted a review given to me by Gary for the new Matty Good album, "Vancouver". Sounds like a solid release. Working on a few other things, should have 'em posted this week.
09.21.09
[Brandon]
Aside from Mark's update, I've posted a new review for the graphic novel "Hush". Ch-ch-check it out.

Gerweck.net published the 9/19 Halifax house show results.
Also a birthday shoutout to Modern Distraction's own Mr. Matthew Hardy!

Added a new review for The Rise And Fall of WCW. More to come. There's a problem with the site where we can't seem to have links work in both all browsers. Right now, they seem to function in Firefox only and not Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Safari. Weird. I'll get working on that.
08.19.09
[Alex]
So I have figured out how to update this thing I think (well at least the main page). Be afraid be very afraid
08.17.09
[Brandon]
I told you I'd bring the review for inFAMOUS to the site and I did. Check that out. Also, took in District 9 last night, working on a review for that as well. I also picked up "I Love You, Man" on DVD and will be getting the 3rd season of Dexter tomorrow.
Seeing as I did that 3 book review of the Dexter series, I'm thinking about doing a 3 season review or Dexter as well. I'll keep you posted.
08.15.09

New movie review! G.I. Joe! Apparently, Al has about 12 articles written. I have a few more things coming, maybe even the first video game review.
08.04.09
[Brandon]
I decided to take in Judd Apatow's "Funny People" last weekend and THEN decided to do a review! So, I posted that. Just about finished PS3's inFAMOUS and will subsequently post a review. Soon!
07.31.09
[Brandon]
I've added a new review to the DVD section for the two Robot Chicken Star Wars specials. I hope you enjoy it! Now that I'm settled and living back in Nova Scotia, I hope to have a few more updates on the way.
07.20.09
[Brandon]
So, I made it back to Nova Scotia. Just awaiting on the arrival of our stuff - movers are due here on Thursday. Sometime next week, I should have some updates ready for posting, then it's back to normal around here.
07.12.09
[Brandon]
Aside from Matty's two recent updates - things have been pretty slow around here. Has something to do with the fact that both myself and Mark are currently moving from Alberta back to Nova Scotia. I doubt you'll see much in the way of updates in the next week or two aside from anything supplied by either Matty or Alex.
07.09.09
[Matt]
Alright, my first post on the new site....just threw up a book review for Stephen Graham Jones' "All The Beautiful Sinners" and a movie review for "The Hurt Locker"...check em out, and I'm sure I'll be back with other things....probably.
07.08.09
[Brandon]
Added a new book review for John Connolly's "Book Of Lost Things". I'm working on a few more reviews - look for some more updates this weekend. Look for 'em!
07.05.09
[Brandon]
The work on the site continues. Looks like I've fixed up the last of the dead links and entered in some new sections as well. Check out the columns section for some old favorites brought over from TRX. I probably won't be bringing over the majority of the old movie reviews - its just too much stuff. However, I will slowly be bringing some classic TRX stuff as time rolls on.
07.03.09
[Brandon]
I really meant to post this review on Canada Day but by the time I finished watching it I felt that sleeping was the better option. So, I posted it today - the review of Michael McGowan's film, One Week. Check it out. I picked up a game the other day for the Wii - the newest Boom Blox game. Man, its addictive. I'll post a review sooner or later.
07.01.09

As the owners' of this site are Canadian, I've decided to do a quick tribute to Canada with ten great things about this great country of ours. Peep it yo. Happy Canada Day!

Hi folks. Welcome to ModernDistraction.com! As you can see, the site is not fully operational yet but we are working on it. We have a few small kinks to work out (mostly background related) and the site will be as good as new. In the meantime, look around. I've posted a few new things! I'm going to be working pretty hard on this for the next few days so hopefully it'll be all ready to go by the weekend.
