Top Ten Holiday Songs
Brandon Sears
1. Happy X-Mas (War is Over) - By far, my favorite christmas song of them all. Granted, you can only really go with the original. John Lennon's christmas tune is a classic. However, I'm starting to like a version done by The Fray last year. The Fray did a great job re-creating the song..but you can't beat an original. Right?

2. The Hanukkah Song - Adam Sandler's holiday classic is also on my list. It's probably the only song on here that isn't about Christmas and probably one of the only songs that anyone has ever written about Hanukkah in a contemporary sense. You can probably still find the original preformance of the song on SNL somewhere on the interweb..or if you're like me and own his "SNL: Best of " DVD.

3. Christmastime Is Here - The main theme song from the greatest christmas special there is, It's Christmas, Charlie Brown! I'll take the vocal version or the instrumental, either way its great. I think in the 2nd season of House, they used this song at the ending of their annual Christmas-y themed episode. It brought great joy to me.

4. Christmas in Hollis - C'mon! Its RUN DMC! This might be the most ridiculous Christmas song ever written but I love it. Its also the only Christmas rap song I've ever heard.

5. Carol of the Bells - I love this song, every version I've ever heard. However, there are two that stick in my mind more than others. The version from the first Home Alone movie where Kevin is running through Chicago trying to get home after remembering, while at church, that Joe Pesci is coming to rob his home. The other version is the one done by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It sounds like Metallica rockin' out at a Christmas concert. Its pretty sweet.

6. The Entire Aaron Neville Christmas Album/Garth Brooks Christmas Album - Yes, I know this isn't a real selection and yes, its horribly unfair but these are the christmas albums that I grew up with. My mom used to play them quite a bit. I couldn't pick any single song from the albums so this was the most logical choice for me. Its also the only time I will probably ever like the song "Go Tell It On The Mountain".

7. Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home) - I love this song, I enjoy the U2 version the most. I think it might be the only christmas song they've done. Its been in more than a few movies. Its quite fantastic.

8. You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch - Everyone loves this song. Its a classic. Except when used in the re-make of the Grinch. That movie was sort of unecessary. It doesn't compare to the original. That and all that backstory they had to make up to extend the movie past its 20 minute running time. I'll take the cartoon version thanks.

9. The 12 Pains of Christmas - I'm still unsure to this day who actually does this song. I know after I downloaded it several years ago from Kazaa or one of those sites..it was apparently Weird Al. I'm pretty sure its not him. I don't know who the hell it could be. Either way, its great.

10. I Won't Be Home For Christmas - Blink 182 recorded this song. Its odd to have my last two entries be anti-christmas songs..but well..they are. I haven't heard this song in a while. I should probably get it. So, there you have it. My Top Ten Hoilday Songs. I hope you enjoyed it. Next weekend will be my Top 10 Holiday Movies.
